Who Should Take the Emergency Response Officer Refresher Course?
The Emergency Response Officer refresher (ERO) course is intended for those who already hold a valid ERO certificate. The ERO course is ideal for companies where English is the primary language. Having English-speaking responders trained as emergency response officers ensures that English assistance can be provided during emergencies.
Why Take the ERO Refresher Course?
Taking the EROrefresher course keeps your knowledge current and maintains the validity of your ERO certificate, which is valid for one year. To keep your certification, you must complete the annual ERO refresher course. According to the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet), companies, institutions, and schools must arrange for trained emergency responders. A solid ERO organization can prevent or limit damage and injuries in incidents. Safety comes first, and training doesn’t end with initial certification; responders must remain skilled and practiced. Completion of the English refresher course provides proof of expertise.
Content of the ERO Refresher Course
The refresher course follows the standards set by the Netherlands Institute for Emergency Response (NIBHV). The one-day course (or two half-day sessions) offers a mix of theory and practice with a rotating curriculum each year.
The refresher course includes four modules:
- Non-Emergency First Aid
- Cuts, burns, eye injuries, bruises, sprains, fractures
- Emergency First Aid
- Choking, CPR, using AED, first aid for medical conditions (epilepsy, stroke, heart attack, diabetes, shock)
- Fire Fighting
- Extinguishing small fires, fire triangle, fire classes, fire hose reel, foam extinguisher, CO2 extinguisher, powder extinguisher, fire blanket
- Evacuation
- Communication, alarm procedures, door procedure, and evacuation
In our training center in Hedel, near ’s-Hertogenbosch and Zaltbommel, trainees gain practical experience in fire suppression, administering first aid in realistic scenarios, executing door procedures, and participating in evacuation drills.
Emergency Response Officer Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive the standard ERO refresher certificate from Preventief BV, included in the course fee. Alternatively, you may opt for the independent NIBHV refresher certificate for an additional fee of €9.50 (excl. VAT) per person, which can be requested at registration.
